The Burnet High School girls soccer team crushed Jarrell 9-0 Feb. 24 to remain in first place in District 25-4A at 9-0.
“We came out strong and played hard and walked away with a great team win,” head coach Kimberly Myhre said. “We had lots of fans, and we are so grateful for all the support. These girls put in work daily and are so fun to watch, so thank you for coming out to watch them.”
Brook Oliva and Amelia Griffin both led the Lady Dawgs with two goals each. Other goals came from Taylor Petty, Kaycie Banton and Caroline Valencia. The other two goals were scored from the most unlikeliest of positions: defender Maris Sanchez and goalie Juliet Morale.
Banton, Griffin and Reagan Shipley each had two assists.
Myhre was equally pleased with the Burnet defense.
“Defense and both of our goal keepers Juliet and Kylie Brobst kept a clean sheet in the back,” she said.
The Lady Dawgs have a bye Tuesday, Feb. 28, and will travel to Lago Vista Friday, March 3, for a doubleheader with the boys. The girls play at 5 p.m. and the Bulldogs follow at 7 p.m.
The Lady Dawgs’ last regular season home game is against Georgetown Gateway at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7. The program will honor its seniors.
“We would love to have the stands full of green as we celebrate these girls and the legacy they are leaving for Burnet soccer,” Myhre said.
