The Burnet High School girls soccer team defeated Florence 10-0 Feb. 21 and Austin Achieve 9-0 Feb. 17 to remain at the top of the District 25-4A standings.
The Lady Dawgs (18-2-1) are 8-0 in district play. And the team celebrated Amelia Griffin scoring her 55th goal, which she obtained in the last two years.
“Which is a big accomplishment in the soccer world,” head coach Kimberly Myhre said.
Against Achieve, Brook Oliva and Amelia Griffin both led the Lady Dawgs with three goals apiece for hat tricks. Kaycie Banton scored two goals and Kdee McCurry added the last goal of the night. Oliva also had three assists. Lainey Rye, Julie Suazo, Sam Gaylord and Banton each had an assist.
But the true stars of the contest were the defenders, Myhre said.
“Our defense and goalie Juliet Morales kept a clean sheet in the back,” she said.
Burnet welcomes Jarrell to Bulldog Field Friday, Feb. 24, in a doubleheader. The boys junior varsity plays at 4 p.m. with the Lady Dawgs following at 5 p.m. and the boys varsity at 7:30 p.m.
“We would love the stands to be full of green, as this is the last time both teams will be home together,” Myhre said.
