Burnet girls soccer beats Marble Falls to take sole possession of first in district
The Burnet High School girls soccer team defeated Marble Falls 5-3 Feb. 14 in a battle of unbeaten District 25-4A members.
As a result the Lady Dawgs (16-2-1, 6-0) are alone at the top of the district standings with Marble Falls (5-1) in second after the first round of play.
“Marble had not been scored on yet this season in district play,” Burnet head coach Kimberly Myhre said. “This group came out with so much heart and fight until the very last minute, literally. Every time Marble Falls scored, we answered with a goal.”
That trait was very important in the final five minutes of play when the two teams were tied at 3-3. The Lady Dawgs scored two unanswered goals to ensure the win.
Brook Oliva scored two goals and had an assist, while Amelia Griffin, Caroline Valencia and Lainey Rye each had a goal. Julie Suazo and Griffin each recorded two assist.
“Coach Suarez and myself could not ask for more heart and be more proud of this group,” Myhre said. “Thank you to all the fans for coming out to cheer us on. It was a fun game, and we loved the support”
The Burnet junior varsity also beat the Lady Mustangs 2-1.
Burnet welcomes Austin Achieve Friday, Feb, 17, to Bulldog Field with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
