Burnet girls soccer crushes Florence for another district win

The Burnet High School girls soccer team stomped Florence 8-0 Jan. 27 to go to 2-0 in District 25-4A play and a tie for first with Marble Falls.
The Lady Dawgs (13-2) made it look easy.
Ameilia Griffin led with a hat trick by scoring three goals and recording three assists. Brook Oliva added two goals, while Kaycie Banton, Caroline Valencia and Emily Wagner also each found the back of the net.
Valencia had two assists and Taylor Petty had three.
Head coach Kimberly Myhre commended the defenders for ensuring the shutout.
“Defense and our goal keeper kept it clean in the back with no goals given up,” she said.
The junior varsity finished third at the Salado tournament Jan. 26 and 28 by going 2-1.
The Lady Dawgs defeated Cameron Yoe 6-0 and Austin IDEA 4-1. Burnet lost to Midlothian Heritage 3-1.
“They came home with some hardware,” Myhre said.
The Burnet varsity travels to Jarrell for a 5:30 p.m. contest Thursday, Feb. 2. The Burnet junior varsity welcomes Salado at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3.
