Burnet powerlifting finishes in top six at the Lampasas Invitational

The Burnet High School powerlifting teams competed at the Lampasas Invitational Jan. 19 with the Lady Dawgs finishing third in their division and the Bulldogs finishing sixth in theirs.
The Lady Dawgs were led by Abby Smith and Maddi Moise, who won their weight classes. They had multiple teammates place in the top five to earn points toward the team total. Smith also was named the Top Lifter Light Platform at the meet.
Smith set new personal records in the squat with 265 pounds and in the deadlift with 270 pounds. She also had a bench press of 150 pounds for a total of 685 pounds, which also is a new personal best.
Moise had new personal bests in the squat with 230 pounds and in the bench press with 155 pounds. She totaled 290 pounds in the deadlift for a total weight of 675 pounds, which is a new personal record.
Maddie Cardenas set a new personal best in the squat at 235 pounds and in the deadlift with 275 pounds. She had a bench press of 135 pounds to total 645 pounds, which is a new personal record. She came home with a silver medal.
Kimberly Watson also was a silver medalist and set new personal records in all three lifts: a 250-pound squat, a 145-pound bench press, and a 270-pound deadlift for a total of 665 pounds.
Lainey Rye, who finished fifth, set new personal records in the bench press at 170 pounds and in the deadlift at 260 pounds. She squatted 235 pounds for a total weight of 665 pounds, which is a new personal best.
Josie Teague also finished fifth with a squat of 205 pounds, a 115-pound bench press, and a 190-pound deadlift for a total weight of 510 pounds.
Emmalee Williams set a new best in the squat at 250 pounds, lifted 145 pounds in the bench press, and had a deadlift of 270 pounds for a total of 665 pounds, which is a new personal record. She finished sixth.
Gracie Wiggs was eighth and set new personal bests in all three lifts: 195-pound squat, 105-pound bench press, and a 230-pound deadlift for a total of 530 pounds.
Kenley currie finished ninth with a 150-pound squat and a 195-pound deadlift for new personal bests and an 85-pound bench press for a total weight of 430 pounds, which also is a new personal record.
Alexis Leatherwood also was ninth with a 250-pound squat and a 275-pound deadlift to set new personal records and a 115-pound bench for a total weight of 640 pounds, which is a new personal record.
Kasey Watson was 10th with a 175-pound squat, a 105-pound bench press, and a 220-pound deadlift for a total of 500 pounds.
Carleigh Imrie was 16th with a 185-pound squat, a 115-pound bench press, and a 185-pound deadlift for a total weight of 485 pounds.
The Bulldogs were led by Jose Rodriguez and Brady Rygaard, who won their weight divisions.
Rodriguez set a new personal best in the squat with 445 pounds and in the bench press with 235 pounds. He also deadlifted 430 pounds for a total of 1,110 pounds, which is a new personal record.
Rygaard set new personal bests in all three lifts: 420-pound squat, 310-pound bench press, and 475-pound deadlift for a total weight of 1,205 pounds.
Sammy Jones finished third with 340 pounds in the squat and 305 pounds in the deadlift for new personal bests. He bench pressed 200 pounds for a total weight of 845 pounds.
Brandon Westbrook set new personal records in all three lifts en route to finishing fourth: 460 pounds in the squat, 265 pounds in the bench press, and 415 pounds in the deadlift for a total of 1,140 pounds.
John Charron was fifth with new personal bests in the squat at 360 pounds and 365 pounds in the deadlift. He also deadlifted 240 pounds in the bench press for a total of 965 pounds.
Luke Hudgins finished seventh with new personal bests in the squat with 420 pounds and in the deadlift with 505 pounds. His 285 pounds in the bench press brought his total to 1,210 pounds.
Miguel Roman was eighth with a squat of 370 pounds, a bench press of 225 pounds, and a deadlift of 370 pounds for a total weight of 965 pounds.
Aeden Harrison set new personal bests in the squat with 360 pounds and in the deadlift with 345 pounds. His 215-pound squat gave him a total weight of 920 pounds, good enough to finish ninth.
Nicholas Torres also was ninth with a 340-pound squat, a 240-pound bench press, and a 375-pound deadlift for a total of 955 pounds.
Braeden McKenzie was 11th with a 315-pound squat, a 205-pound bench press, and a 315-pound deadlift for a total weight of 835 pounds.
Johnathan Ryder was 12th with a 375-pound squat, a 215-pound bench press, and a 400-pound deadlift for a total weight of 990 pounds, which are all new personal bests.
Colt Johnson set new personal bests in all three lifts to finish 13th: 365-pound squat, 215-pound bench press, and a 350-pound deadlift for a total weight of 930 pounds.
“Coach Couch and myself are extremely proud of how our athletes competed and look forward to seeing them improve over the next few weeks” head coach Tyler McIntosh said.
Burnet will compete at the Llano Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at the John L. Kuykendall Arena and Events Center, 2200 RR 152 West.
