Faith Academy girls basketball holds court in win against Waco Reicher

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls basketball team beat Waco Reicher 43-24 Jan. 17 to go to 3-1 in District 3-3A play of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
After leading 17-12 at the half, the Lady Flames blew the game open in the third quarter behind tenacious defense and high-percentage shots in the paint. They began the period on a 7-0 run thanks to scores from forward Claire Poage, guard Elleson Lehmberg and forward Ella Cozby. Center Morgan Weems dropped in key buckets midway through the period that helped the Lady Flames outscore the Lady Cougars 16-4 for a 32-16 advantage headed into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Flames continued the onslaught by dropping in 11 points and allowing only eight in the rout.
Cozby led the way with 12 points, including seven in the fourth period, Lehmberg added 10, and Morgan Weems dropped in nine.
Faith seized control of the contest thanks to a 7-0 run in the final four minutes of the first half. Post Natalie Weems found Poage on a backdoor, Cozby added two free throws, Morgan Weems drove to the hoop, and McKenzie Ahrlett scored on a give-and-go from Natalie Weems.
Faith turns its attention to an important three-game road trip beginning with a stop at Bryan Brazos at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19. Then the Lady Flames go to Waco Live Oak Classical for a 3 p.m. tip-off and end the skid at Round Rock Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24.
