The Burnet High School girls soccer team defeated Comal Canyon Lake 3-1 Jan. 10.
The Lady Dawgs (6-0) came back from a 1-0 half-time deficit to score three unanswered goals in the second half.
“This was a true showing of how much heart and fight this team has,” head coach Kimberly Myhre said. “Canyon Lake and us went into this game both 5-0, and they are a team we could see later on in playoffs.”
The goals came from Taylor Petty, Brook Oliva and Amelia Griffin and Julie Suazo, Oliva and Griffin each had an assist.
While Myhre was pleased the offense came alive in the second half, she credited the defense.
“Defense killed it, and our goalie, Juliet Morales, had tremendous saves the entire night that kept us in the game,” she said.
As a result, Morales was named the player of the game.
The Lady Dawgs will on the Bulldog Field turf Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 12-14, for their own Burnet Classic tournament. Game one is against Taylor at 9 a.m. while game two is against Pflugerville Connally at 7:30 p.m. both on Thursday. Canyon Randall is next at 10:30 a.m. Friday to complete pool play. Teams’ records will dictate who and what time they play game four on Saturday.
