Burnet High School senior volleyball player Kayla Gillaspie fulfilled a lifelong goal May 6 when she signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Ranger College in Odessa. The Lady Dawg, who was a member of the District 19-4A co-championship and Class 4A Region III semifinalist team, celebrated the signing with family and friends. The Faith Academy of Marble Falls baseball team’s season ended in a 16-5 loss to Halletsville Sacred Heart in the Class 2A playoffs May 5. Llano High School girls coordinator and head basketball coach Todd Lange died May 4 after an eight-month battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. May volleyball league draws athletes back to the hardwood

Wanting to give local volleyball athletes opportunities to play and improve but not wanting to travel far, Marble Falls High School head coach Kait Goertz decided to host weekly matches here. The beginning of May means the start of 7-on-7 for football players, including in the Highland Lakes. Burnet High School is the site of a Division II state qualifying tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 28. In addition, Burnet also is hosting a linemen’s challenge with competitions specifically designed for those who work in the trenches. Fundraiser does more than raise money for volleyball program

Needing a fundraiser and knowing the positive impact volleyball has on a community, Marble Falls High School volleyball head coach Kait Goertz organized a tournament that is pitting squads consisting of boys against each other. The tournament is at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Max Copeland Gym on the Marble Falls High School campus, 2101 Mustang Drive. Admission is $2. The tradition of the Faith Academy of Marble Falls tennis team earning a state championship continued thanks to a pair of left-handed freshmen.
