Faith Academy boys basketball starts season with 1-1 record

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team bounced back from a 66-54 loss to Killeen Chaparral Nov.18 with a 60-15 victory against Kerrville Our Lady of the Hills Nov. 22.

Head coach Zakk Revelle said the Flames (1-1) were within striking distance of the Bobcats, who are 4-0 on season in their first year of existence.

“Chaparral has a really good group of athletes,” he said. “We were up at halftime, and we knew they were going to have a ton of guys. They had 12 guys. And we don’t have 12 guys available to us.”

The Bobcats took a nine-point lead into the final stanza, but Faith refused to go away. The Flames kept chipping away until they faced a six-point deficit with two minutes left. They had to start fouling to conserve time. And the Bobcats made their free throws to widen the gap and earn the win.

“It was a really good game,” Revelle said. “We made a ton of mistakes. We’re playing with new guys, and that’s the first time they’ve played five-on-five against someone else.”

Senior power forward Brock Davis paced Faith with 19 points and 19 rebounds.

Revelle noted the Bobcats had one sophomore with the remaining 11 players are upperclassmen. In addition they featured guards who stood at least 6 feet and 1 inch and a 6-6 post.

“They had good size, and their press wore us down,” he said. “Killeen is a basketball hotbed.”

Despite the loss, the Flames played well, the coach added, pointing out they were right there to reverse the outcome. He also credited the Bobcats for making their free throws when they had to have them.

“I was really pleased with the effort they gave,” he said of the Flames. “There’s a lot to clean up. This team has big goals, dreams and aspirations. Every Texas high school says they want to be at the Final Four, at the state tournament. But there’s only a handful of teams that that can be a reality. We think this is one of those teams. We think this team can accomplish that.”

Faith travels to play Jourdanton at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.
