The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team welcomes Conroe Covenant to begin the six-man Division II playoffs of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Britton Field on the Faith campus, 3151 RR 1431 East in Marble Falls.
The Flames (5-3, 4-0 District 3, Division II champions) are very familiar with the Cougars (9-2, 5-1 District 5, Division II runners-up) as both squads have played each other in the postseason. Faith won 32-18 in 2021 and 62-57 in 2020.
Faith head coach Stephen Shipley said the Cougars rely heavily on Kade Houston, who has 48 rushes for 665 yards and 12 touchdowns and 6 of his 8 receptions have been for touchdowns.
“He’s a stud running back and defensive player,” Shipley said, noting Houston has been injured but could be ready for the playoffs.
Look for the Cougars to be in tight offensive formations for their diamond look, which has three players in the backfield. The quarterback has the option of running or passing.
When Covenant passes the ball, it’s usually to Dylan Harper, who has 38 catches for 454 yards and 15 scores to go with his 15 carries for 128 yards and five touchdowns.
“He’s a talented 6-4 wide receiver they put in the backfield,” Shipley said. “They’re obviously good.”
Faith will counter with a defensive scheme that helped the Flames go undefeated in district play. Junior Cross Sanchez has been a force on both sides of the ball, especially offensively where he has scored multiple times per contest.
