The Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer teams were splendid in earning victories Sept. 17.

The varsity (fifth- and sixth-graders) earned a 22-0 win against Boerne to move to 3-0 on the season. The junior varsity (third- and fourth-graders) crushed Fredericksburg White 32-0 and the freshmen (first- and second-graders) lost to Fredericksburg 20-0.

Junior varsity tailback Tristan Moseley, a fourth-grader, led the way with 3 touchdowns.

“The line blocked a lot and helped me out,” he said. “I stuck to the outside and the lead blocker blocked for me, which helped a lot. I’m very happy.”

Quarterback Charles Wood, a fourth-grader, said everyone on the team played well.

“I read the plays well,” he said. “Some of the plays that got called I was able to go 40 yards out of those plays from the line of scrimmage.”

The Mustangs had wake-up calls at around dawn. Wood noted he arrived to Pony Stadium, site of the ball game, at 7:05 a.m.

“I made sure I conserved energy before the game,” he said.

Center Braylen Copenhaver, a third-grader, said the offensive line moved as one unit, which allowed the slot-T offense to rack up yards and score.

“We got good snaps and made sure we didn’t fumble today,” he said.

“We really needed it because we did a few pass plays,” Wood said. “We need to get blocks or we won’t get the play right. I had to break a few tackles.”

Quarterback and defensive end Van Michael was especially happy with a defensive stand that kept the Billies scoreless.

“They got the ball to our seven-yard line,” he said. “And we stopped them on our half-yard line.”

“That was a huge possession,” MFYFC president Nicholas Wood said. “That was their longest penetration. Our boys stood them up, and it’s important to keep that going.”

Marble Falls is back in action Saturday, Sept. 24.

The freshmen will travel to face Burnet at 9 a.m. at Bulldog Field, 1400 Bulldog Stadium Drive.

The Marble Falls junior varsity welcomes Smithson Valley White at 9 a.m., while the varsity hosts Smithson Pieper Purple at 4:30 p.m. all at Pony Stadium, 1511 Pony Circle Drive in Marble Falls.
