Burnet High School senior runner Hudson Bennett is proving once more why he is considered among the best in the state.
The Bulldog finished fifth at the prestigious Elite race of the Southlake Carroll Invitational in 14 minutes and 58 seconds Aug. 27. He finished the first mile in “an amazing 9:22,” head coach Roy Kiser said.
“Hudson has worked hard for this, and his times are reflecting that,” he said. “This is the fastest 5K by any Burnet runner that I know of.”
His teammates competed at the Cedar Park Vista Ridge Invitational Aug. 26.
The girls varsity team of freshman Asah Roy, sophomore Kori Haile, junior Amelia Griffin and junior Cierra Blunt-Culpepper earned the silver medal paced by Roy, who was the overall individual champion thanks to clocking 10:38.80. Haile was ninth in 11:34.10, Griffin was 18th in 11:46.40, and Blunt-Culpepper was 20th in 11:49.80.
The girls junior varsity team won its division. Senior Autumn Stires was fourth in 12:50.60, junior Amberlyn Glasscock was right behind, finishing fifth in 12:53.60, junior Brooke Bowman was sixth in 13:18.50, and freshman Josie McDavid finished seventh in 13:23.50.
Kiser noted the boys didn’t place.
“They had some fantastic finishes and competed against mostly Class 5A and 6A runners,” he said.
Sophomore Victor Aviles was 30th in the varsity race thanks to clocking 17:02, while sophomore Gustavk Vega finished in 19:04.30. Freshman Josvanny Ramierez was 128th in 19:49.60, and sophomore Isaias Zarate was 145th in 21:45.60
Burnet will run at the Pro-Fit Invitational in Temple Friday, Sept. 2.
