The Burnet High School volleyball team finished third at the Little River Academy tournament Aug. 25 and 27 after posting a 3-2 record.
Two matches were against Salado, which shared the district title with Burnet last year. The Lady Eagles won the first match at this tournament 30-28 and 25-18. When the two met again for third place, the Lady Dawgs won 18-25, 25-16, 15-10.
“I am very proud of the strong finish against a great team,” head coach Crystal Shipley said. “I am especially proud of the way they faced a team that beat them two days prior and didn’t back down. In three very exciting sets, our girls came out on top.”
Burnet advanced to the gold bracket after beating Moody 25-9, 25-12 Aug. 25.
On Aug. 27, Burnet lost to Academy 25-13, 15-25, 13-15 and bounced back against Temple 25-14, 25-12 before facing Salado.
“We started Saturday strong, but didn’t end up with the win against Little River,” Shipley said. “The girls turned it on against Temple.”
The Lady Dawgs welcome Llano at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, to The Doghouse, 1000 The Green Mile, and travel to Wimberley on Friday, Sept. 2.
