Edwards wanted Marble Falls coaching hires to help students succeed in all phases

Rick Edwards did more than repeat the Marble Falls Independent School District’s motto of having an unyielding commitment to loving every child — he lived it. That was apparent by the way the MFISD board trustee voted when it came to policies, funding unexpected expenses such as trips for extracurricular activities, and especially hires. Edwards died May 7 from a brain hemorrhage on the same day he was re-elected to the board. While it’s a given that every MFISD employee embraces the district motto and shows it, the truth is…

Just as Faith Academy of Marble Falls head track and field coach Steve McCannon predicted, the Class 2A boys state championship came down to the 4×400-meter relay, the meet’s last race May 7. But what McCannon couldn’t have predicted was having to make a change because of one of his relay runners was unable to go. “Luke Ehrig went down in the 100,” he said. So the coach went to sophomore Cross Sanchez and told him the situation. “We knew we had to beat Dallas First Baptist Academy,” McCannon said.…

Houston was right. The Leopards (19-10, 8-2 District 20-4A co-district champions) scored the only run it needed, in the eighth inning on an RBI single to left field. The lead-off batter got on thanks to a single and the next batter…
