Fundraiser does more than raise money for volleyball program

Needing a fundraiser and knowing the positive impact volleyball has on a community, Marble Falls High School volleyball head coach Kait Goertz organized a tournament that is pitting squads consisting of boys against each other.

The tournament is at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Max Copeland Gym on the Marble Falls High School campus, 2101 Mustang Drive. Admission is $2. The format is a double elimination tournament with the two teams meeting in the championship playing a three-set match.

Goertz started the tournament in 2021 and received positive feedback. Money raised through it paid for pink uniforms the Lady Mustangs used for their annual Pink Out matches. This year the money is going toward a team-bonding event.

While those are all positives, the coach noted the tournament also helps in other ways.

“It’s kind of like powder puff football,” she said. “As soon as you give them a chance to play, they’re even more excited. The kids absolutely love it. There are some pretty strong teams in my opinion with 10 to 12 boys on each.”

The Lady Mustangs are equal participants as they serve as coaches, officials and call lines.

“I’m trying to get my girls involved in different aspects other than playing,” Goertz said.
