Miscues don’t derail Bulldogs from road win at Gateway

A calm, cool and collected demeanor by Burnet senior pitcher Ralston Vance resulted in the Bulldogs beating Georgetown Gateway 3-1 April 5. Vance had 8 strikeouts and didn’t issue a walk, which meant the five errors committed by the Bulldogs (8-7-1, 5-3 District 19-4A) didn’t affect the outcome. “This win doesn’t mathematically put us in the playoffs,” head coach Russell Houston said. “It’s a win that it would have been difficult to get in the playoffs without it.” The Gators may have had their best scoring opportunities early. Burnet committed…

The Burnet High School softball team snapped a three-game losing skid April 5 with a bang — literally. The Lady Dawgs swept the series against the Lady Cougars. “They were due,” head coach Hailey Wooten said of the offensive explosion. After the Lady Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Burnet plated two in its half of the inning, another…

Barnes to take talents to Texas Lutheran University

After helping the Marble Falls High School football team flip field position with his powerful punts and kickoffs, senior place kicker and punter Logan Barnes is aiming to do the same for Texas Lutheran University. Barnes committed to play for the Bulldogs as a punter and a shot and discus thrower for the track and field squad. “It felt like Marble Falls,” he said. “It feels like family where the players are going to be first. Community-loved MFISD athletics facilities to receive improvements

A new track at Marble Falls Middle School’s Pony Stadium and resurfacing of the courts at the Charlie and Nancy Herrington Tennis Center at Marble Falls High School means those facilities won’t be available to the public for a few weeks. The removal of the old track at MFMS, 1511 Pony Circle Drive, began April 4. Resurfacing at the tennis center is expected to be completed toward the end of April. The Marble Falls High School baseball team earned its first win of the District 25-5A season, a 9-8 walk-off victory in the ninth inning against Georgetown East View April 1. A.J. Bulldogs split games against Jarrell, take the series

The Burnet High School baseball team split the two games with Jarrell, which were played March 29 and April 1. The Bulldogs (7-7-1, 4-3 District 19-4A) beat the Cougars (6-8-2, 2-5) 16-6 on March 29 but lost 2-1 on a walk-off sacrifice in the seventh inning April 1. Burnet had previously beaten Jarrell 2-1 March 8. Unlike other sports where athletes can settle into a groove and rhythm, it’s not unusual for baseball teams to pound out multiple runs in an inning and not score much the rest of the…

Lady Dawgs punch ticket to regional tourney, a program first

The Burnet High School girls soccer team’s historical march through the 2022 Class 4A playoffs continues thanks to a thrilling 3-2 double overtime win over undefeated Giddings in the regional quarterfinals on April 1. The Lady Dawgs (18-7-3, 11-4 District 18-4A) used a crossing pass and nailed two penalty kicks to end the Lady Buffaloes’ (19-1-1, 8-0 District 19-4A) season. “Those girls hadn’t lost all season,” Burnet head coach Kimberly Myhre said of Giddings. “And no one expected us to win. The girls wanted to win. They pumped each other…
