Burnet finishes powerlifting season at the state meet

The Burnet High School powerlifting season concluded during Spring Break. Sophomore Abby Smith returned to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet March 18 where she finished 14th in the 114-pound weight division by lifting a total weight of 265 pounds, which set personal records for each lift: 250 pounds in the squat, 145 pounds on the bench press, and 265 pounds in the deadlift. The Burnet High School baseball team found itself in familiar territory March 18 against Salado. The Bulldogs (6-4-1, 3-0 District 19-4A) lost their 5-3 lead headed into the seventh inning when the Eagles (7-5, 2-1) put three runs on the board for a 6-5 advantage. ‘Gouda’ will play baseball for Coastal Bend College

Marble Falls High School senior Jon “Gouda” Zamarippa has committed to play baseball for Coastal Bend College and will sign his National Letter of Intent in a few weeks. Burnet and Marble Falls high school track and field athletes competed in the Salado meet March 11 before leaving for Spring Break. In the boys varsity team standings, Burnet finished second with 101 points, while Marble Falls was fifth with 71 points. Nothing changed for the Burnet High School softball team as the Lady Dawgs began District 19-4A play March 15. The Lady Dawgs (16-3, 1-0) beat Jarrell 12-4 in a contest where they recorded 20 hits led by senior Savannah Gomez, who went 5 for 5 at the plate for 2 RBIs off two singles and two doubles. Hill Country Stars Cheer and Dance is sending its four-person cheer squad to the senior open pom division at the All-Star World Championships at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, on April 21-23.
