Aggies continue to show why they’re the best in the state
Texas A&M continues to demonstrate why it is the best college team in the state.
Despite playing without several difference makers, Texas A&M continued SEC play with a 24-13 win over South Carolina on Oct. 1.
The Aggies (5-0, 2-0) were solid throughout the day, especially in the running game where they logged 216 yards. Quarterback Trevor Knight threw for 206 yards and an interception.
But the game was defined by the Wrecking Crew defense, which forced the Gamecocks (2-3, 1-3) into using trick plays as illustrated by having four players attempt passes during the contest.
It didn’t start that way, however, thanks to a 75-yard run by A.J. Turner for a 7-0 South Carolina lead. Knight got his team the on the board four plays later to even the score when he ran in for a four-yard touchdown. The tied score stood throughout the first half.
Trayveon Williams gave the Aggies the lead for good when he scored on a 49-yard scamper in the third quarter, and James White sealed the win with a two-yard touchdown run for a 21-10 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Credit coaches and players for getting ready to play with defensive end Myles Garrett and receivers Ricky Seals-Jones and Speedy Noil and offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor all missing the contest because of injuries.
Talk about depth, preparation and believing in what your scheme and coaches.
While the receivers suffered leg injuries during last week’s win against Arkansas, it’s believed Garrett’s absence was more precautionary as the Aggies prepare for Tennessee next week and then Alabama a week later.
With the win over South Carolina, Texas A&M is 5-0 for the third consecutive year.
